The Riverside Boat Club Men’s Master’s program is a competitive team of rowers ranging in age from early 30s to early 70s to compete successfully at regional, national, and international regattas.
We race and win in local, regional, and national events, including US Rowing’s Masters National Championships, Head of the Charles, Head of the Schuylkill, and Riverside’s Cromwell Cup. We will occasionally race at international events such as the World Rowing Masters Regatta, Canadian Henley, and the Heineken Regatta in Amsterdam.
The team welcomes new members as space allows. Applicants should be fit, technically proficient, and have experience rowing and racing at a competitive level. Applicants will be required to submit erg scores before an on-water tryout.
Skilled coxswains are always welcome.
PRACTICES
Coaching focuses on technique, intensity, endurance, and race preparation. We strive to provide a fun and successful rowing and racing experience.
We recognize our teammates’ work and family commitments and try to provide a balanced training approach. Coached on-water practice is MWF 5:15-7 am. The official season runs from the end of March through the end of October, though some members stay on the water until the river freezes. We require attendance at practice at least one day a week during the competitive season.
We train and race in 8s, 4s, quads, pairs, and doubles. While this is primarily a sweep team, members are strongly encouraged to develop their sculling skills.
