Intra-Club Races

Riverside Boat Club hosts several informal regattas that RBC members participate in. These regattas provide an avenue for athletes to practice racing, have fun, and/or measure their progress leading up to races. Members from other boat clubs are welcome to join if approved by the race director.

Crusher Casey

When: Spring (usually in April) –  exact time and date will be sent out to members via the listserv well in advance

Named after Riverside alumnus and world champion wrestler Steve “Crusher” Casey, the Crusher Casey Regatta is an intra-club race for both singles (1x’s) and mixed 8’s. The 3-mile course starts and ends at Riverside’s dock, with a stake turn a mile and a half away (typically at Mass Ave Bridge).

Learn more about the history of Crusher Casey in this blog post.

Head of the Kevin Series

When: Fall, exact dates TBD

In this best-of-three series, Riverside members of all ages and boat classes come out to race the clock (and each other), cutting corners and laying down fast times in preparation for Head of the Charles. Races take place between the beginning of September and the weekend before Head of the Charles.

Contact Kevin McDonnell if you’re interested in racing any or all of this race series PRIOR to the races. If approved to participate, please sign a guest waiver before racing.

Armada and Peanut Butter Cups

When: late October, exact date TBD

Taking place in late October, The Armada Cup starts* at the Mass Ave bridge and runs upstream to Weld and back to Riverside. It is a 1x’s only race. Shortly following the Armada Cup, the Peanut Butter Cup, consists of mixed 2x’s. It begins* at the Mass Ave bridge and ends at the Riverside dock.

**Costumes encouraged.**

Contact Lib Diamond if you are from another club and interested in participating PRIOR to the race. If approved to participate, please sign a guest waiver before racing.

*weather permitting
